About the author

Kitty Wilson

Author Bio:
Kitty Wilson lived in Cornwall for twenty-five years having been dragged there, against her will, as a stroppy teen. She is now remarkably grateful to her parents for their foresight and wisdom – and that her own children aren’t as hideous. Recently she has moved to Bristol, but only for love and on the understanding that she and her partner will be returning to Cornwall to live very soon. She spends most of her time welded to the keyboard, dreaming of the beach or bombing back down the motorway for a quick visit! She has a penchant for very loud music, equally loud dresses and romantic heroines who speak their mind.

My Review

I am loving this series so far as the characters just get better and better. The addition of substitute teacher Kam is refreshing and I enjoyed seeing how much in common Pippa and Kam's mothers had. This is a lovely, light summer read that will transport you to Cornwall to a unique setting. I hope there are more books to follow.

My Review

Having followed the recent rise in popularity of the Instant Pot, an electric pressure cooker, the only thing which put me off, to be honest, was the price. However, if you love authentic Indian cuisine then by following the recipes in this book it could soon pay for itself.
I loved the information about the different regions and the use of different spices. The book has some lovely photos to give you an idea of what the end product should look like. More importantly, it breaks the time down into different sections eg preparation time, cooking time, sauce preparation time etc as well as having sections for vegan and gluten-free.
All in all, it's a  culinary guide to India with some great recipes as a bonus.

KATIE GINGERlives in the South East of England, by the sea, and apart from holidays to very hot places where you can sit by a pool and drink cocktails as big your head, she wouldn't really want to be anywhere else. Summer Season on the Seafront is Katie's second novel. Her debut novel The Little Theatre on the Seafront was shortlisted for the Katie Fforde Debut Novel of the Year award. She is also the author of some cosy mystery short stories. Katie loves making her characters either fall in love, or killing them off - it depends on her mood!
When she's not writing, Katie spends her time drinking gin, or with her husband, trying to keep alive her two children: Ellie, who believes everything in life should be done as a musical number from a West End show; and Sam, who is basically a monkey with a boy's face. And there's also their adorable King Charles Spaniel, Wotsit (yes, he is named after the crisps!).

My Review
I loved this book. Speaking as a member of our local amateur dramatic society, Katie Ginger has got this book spot on. If you add in a dishy doctor and a TV star on the run with some over the top characters this book is engaging from the start. The seaside setting is so realistic I think I want to live there. An easy to read book that is just perfect for a little bit of summer indulgence.

Dead Inside is her debut novel with Killer Reads/Harper Collins UK and the start of a new series featuring DC Maggie Jamieson.

My Review

This is a gritty portrayal of domestic abuse, the author drawing on her years of experience in the Probation Service. To anyone who thinks domestic abuse doesn't happen to educated, employed women holding down challenging jobs then this book shows it can and does happen to anyone from all walks of life. Lucy Sherwood is the last person you would think of as a victim yet she has her own reasons for not leaving her husband. The pace is just right, allowing us to empathise and then in the next chapter wonder if she is actually a murderer. This is a well-written psychological thriller that a seasoned author would be proud of - hard to believe this is a debut novel.

Bold Lies

Book Blurb: An investigation leads Kelly back to her former command… and the ex who betrayed her
A brutal murder in the Lake District.
A double assassination in a secret lab in London’s west end.
Seemingly unconnected, unexpected links between the gruesome crimes emerge and it’s up to DI Kelly Porter to follow the trail – all the way to the capital.
Back amongst old colleagues and forced to work alongside her calculating ex, DCI Matt Carter, Kelly must untangle a web of deceit that stretches into the highest echelons of power. A place where secrets and lies are currency and no obstacle is insurmountable.

About the author

Rachel Lynch grew up in Cumbria and the lakes and fells are never far away from her. London pulled her away to teach History and marry an Army Officer, whom she followed around the globe for thirteen years.

A change of career after children led to personal training and sports therapy, but writing was always the overwhelming force driving the future. The human capacity for compassion as well as its descent into the brutal and murky world of crime are fundamental to her work.

My Review

This is the fifth book in the series and every bit as good if not better than the previous books. Kelly's relationship with Ted is moving forward but it is her relationship with her boyfriend that is under threat when Kelly encounters her ex Matt. The story shifts between the Lakes and London and we see both through Kelly's eyes as she is forced to work with Matt in order to solve a double murder in a London lab. The story is intricately plotted and kept me reading well into the early hours - the kind of thriller to really make you think.

Our last goodbye

Our Last Goodbye by Shirley Dickson

44173946

A heart-wrenching, poignant and totally unforgettable tale of a young woman who must finally face up to the secret she has hidden for a lifetime. A beautiful World War Two novel for fans of Wives of War, Lisa Wingate and Diney Costeloe, that will have you reaching for the Kleenex.

1943, England: On a foggy night during the blackout, twenty-five-year-old May Robinson’s mother is tragically killed. Heartbroken, May isn’t sure she has the strength to harbour the secret she has kept for so many years – a secret her mother devoted her life to hiding, that would tear their broken family even further apart.

Vowing to make her mother proud, May trains to be a nurse at Edgemoor General hospital in South Shields, against a backdrop of wailing air-raid sirens and the eternal drone of enemy planes. Tending to wounded, ashen-faced soldiers, fighting to save lives, May is immediately drawn to kind-hearted Richard Bentley, who works tirelessly alongside her. He has sparkling brown eyes, and makes her laugh.

In the darkest of days, amongst death and despair, May and Richard are beacons of hope for one another. But why isn’t he fighting in the war like thousands of other brave young men?

May knows how she longs to escape her own past, and her mother’s. In this perilous time of such uncertainty, she finds herself asking – how well do they really know each other? And when the shocking truth of May’s secret comes to light, just as the war comes too close to home, can their love survive the impossible?

My Review

Shirley's first book was the story of Etty and her sister who were abandoned in an orphanage (The Orphan Sisters) and this book tells the story of their friend May. From the outset, we know this will be an emotional journey as may's mother is killed in a tragic accident on the way home one night. From then on, May has to deal not only with losing her mother but also her home. The secret she's been keeping from everyone also threatens any future relationships, yet it is her best friend Etty who keeps her grounded and ironically has a secret of her own that will damage their friendship. As May starts her nursing training, she is attracted to Richard yet it would seem that he also has secrets. This book takes the reader on a roller-coaster of emotions, its attention to detail and setting pulling the reader in. If you love historical sagas set during WW2, this will be just up your street.

Heartbreaking and hilarious in equal measure, Dreaming of Rome is a joyous and uplifting read from T.A. Williams, perfect for fans of Holly Martin, Tilly Tennant and Jenny Oliver

After a degree in modern languages at Nottingham University, he lived and worked in Switzerland, France and Italy, before returning to run one of the best-known language schools in the UK. He’s taught Arab princes, Brazilian beauty queens and Italian billionaires. He speaks a number of languages and has travelled extensively. He has eaten snake, still-alive fish, and alligator. A Spanish dog, a Russian bug and a Korean parasite have done their best to eat him in return. His hobby is long-distance cycling, but his passion is writing.

My Review

Every book by this author is a dream to read. The easy-going style immediately transports the reader to another world with lavish descriptions of the local food and scenery. Although romance is at the heart of each book, there is also the romance of the country, the language and the different culture. With both our heroine and hero having sworn off love, the reader can see that they are instantly drawn to each other even if they are both in denial. With their careers taking them in different directions and the potential problems of being in-laws should it all go wrong, it's hard to see how these two can find true love. Just when things get a little intense, there is a jolt of humour to lift the mood. Will Rome be the home of love for these two? You'll have to read it to find out.
