Book One, The Remingtons

Publishing 17th February 2014

Ellie Parker is a master at building walls around her heart. In the twenty-five years she’s been alive, Dex Remington has been the only person who has always believed in her and been there for her. But four years earlier she came to Dex seeking comfort, and then disappeared like a thief in the night, leaving him a broken man.

Dex Remington is one of the top PC game developers in the U.S. He’s handsome, smart, and numb. So damn numb that he’s not sure he’ll ever find a reason to feel again.

A chance encounter sparks intense desires in Ellie and Dex. Desires that make her want to run—and make him want to feel. A combination of lust and fear leads these young lovers down a dangerous path. Is it possible to cross a burned bridge or are they destined to be apart forever?

My Review

This is the first book in the ‘Remington’s ‘ series but the tenth book overall and can be read as a stand -alone. I have read several of Melissa’s books now and know how skilled she is at creating heroes to swoon over. This book is no exception and I found myself being very protective about Dex, who had his heart broken by Ellie when she left without reason four years ago.

Ellie has only ever been able to trust one person in her life and that is Dex so when they bump into each other she can’t face him after what she did in the past. Dex’s patience is extraordinary and I warmed far more to him than to Ellie. I appreciated that Ellie has trust issues being a victim of the foster care system yet there were times when I really wanted to shake her – all credit to Melissa Foster’s writing abilities.
Watching Ellie slowly getting her life back on track and beginning to trust then the next minute wondering if she was going to run away again made for an interesting story. I also enjoyed the portrayal of Dex’s parents as they too develop throughout the story.
I’m now looking forward to the next in the series.

Best for ... those who enjoy a good story with a lovely hero and a troubled heroine

My rating
4/5
