Welcome to the blog
Can you tell us what prompted you to first
start writing? What was the first thing you wrote?
Of course! I've been a keen reader
since I was quite young but I didn't get serious about writing fiction
until 2009 when I wrote my first YA novel, Raven (after I'd been made
redundant). I'd actually written a chick lit novel about 15 years prior to that
but I never published it. I might, after a LOT of much needed editing lol!
Can you summarise your
latest work in just a few words?
A
married woman has a one night stand with a stranger
and then, a few years later, discovers he has moved in next door.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Conversations with friends
about relationships and the song, All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You.
What does a typical writing day involve for
you?
When I'm writing to a
deadline, I start about 10am and keep going until
lunchtime. After an hour's break for a bite to eat, I'll go back into my summer
house and write until I've reached my daily word count. With this book, I
was writing 10,000 words a day. It was insane!
Which
writers have influenced your own writing?
I'm a huge JK Rowling fan and I do believe
it was the Harry Potter books that encouraged me to follow my dream of becoming
an author. Stephenie Meyers too.
What are you working on next? Do you have a
WIP?
In the new year I'll be making a start on
the next book in The Raven Saga, followed by the final book in The Morgan
Sisters series, then I'd like to get Aphrodite's Closet written - my next chick
lit novel.
Tell us
about your travels.
My husband and I are big fans of Canada -
we've been twice and totally loved it. In fact it was there that I got the
inspiration to write Raven. We've had enormous fun in Las Vegas and New York as
well and we're about to investigate the wonders of Washington DC! We're very
excited about it :)
We actually live in Portugal (even though
we're British).
Tell us about your childhood.
I moved to Portugal with my family when I
was ten years old. Then I lost my mum when I was 13 so it was quite difficult
in that respect, but otherwise I had a very happy childhood with a very
supportive dad, younger brother and older sister. I then met my husband when I
was 16 and have been incredibly happy ever since!
Most
writers have some quirks – what are yours?
Hm? I have a habit of chewing my tongue when I'm deep in concentration :D

What
book(s) are you reading at the moment?
I'm actually proofreading a book for a
friend. It's her first novel, so I can't say much about it at the moment.
I'm also re-reading Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life, simply because
it's amazing.
Do you have any advice for new writers?
If you're passionate about writing, don't
give up. Don't be discouraged by negative reviews (it's important you develop a
thick skin in this business!). Read as much as you possibly can. If you put
your mind to it, you can achieve anything.
Thank you
so much for a fabulous chat! Happy Holidays :D
