I've been reading quite a lot of books set during WW2 recently and this one grabbed me from the start. It's a book that will really pull on your heartstrings as you engage with the two young abandoned sisters. Shirley Dickson has a knack for recreating a terrific sense of time and place and it's an amazing debut novel. Aspiring authors note that you should never give up on your dreams.
