J. K. Accinni was born and raised in Sussex County before moving to Randolph, New Jersey, where she lives with her five dogs and eight rabbits, all rescued.Ms. Accinni’s passion for wildlife conservation has led her all over the world, including three trips to Africa, where ten years ago she and her husband fell in love with a baby elephant named Wendi that had been rescued by the incomparable David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Wendi is the inspiration for the character Tobi, the elephant featured in her fourth book titled Hive.

My Review

I will be the first to admit that I am not a huge fan of science fiction nor of dystopian fantasy. However, having reviewed this book I can honestly say that I was engrossed by this series. It worked for me because the fantasy is described in such realistic terns that it becomes believable, well almost!

I enjoyed reading about Netty’s world as she encounters Baby and if Ms Accinni didn’t write fantasy, she would be equally good at historical fiction. In the other two books we see a future where man’s destructive element is paramount and the author’s passion for wildlife shines through.

This series portrays a world that could be all too possible if man doesn’t rein in his worst tendencies. At times the action is brutal but I have read worse and is salvaged by the humanity of those who have been chosen by Baby or Echo to be Elders.

The political background that runs throughout books two and three is chilling and serves as a warning to everyone about extremism. I had thought the trilogy was complete but it appears that I will have to read book four to find out what happens to Joe and his family and if the evil plans of the Imans are thwarted.

This might just be the book that converts me to a science fiction fan.
